3900x voltage too high

Thought I was in the all clear as it didn't power off immediately like it usually does if I push the clocks too high on lower voltages, but then the familiar happens and it powers down. I just noticed that temps were idling at 70ish and immediately hitting the 95c thermal limit on load. Voltage offset is your friend. So the take away is manual fixed ratio overclocking really is a pointless endeavor on the 3900X. I set voltage to 1.325 in Ryzen Master. AMD’s high-performance x86 Core “Zen 2” architecture enables 3rd Gen Ryzen Processors like the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X to deliver the highest single-thread and multi-thread performances for mainstream desktop processors. Similar, but not a match so I didn't want to dick around with what I wasn't sure of. Hey all, long time lurker, rare poster here. I just got an interesting email back from AMD. When I went into bios I didn't find anything that matched. That means you most definitely have at least one CCX that can go higher in multi. Asus board will idle in 1.4v mostly, yes it does dip to sub 1v but lot less than asrock board. I do not all core overclock (except testing) so my cpu volts are left as standard or with a small offset which does improve your clockspeeds. EDIT 7/10/19 @ 15:48 UTC: these comments are true of any 3rd Gen Ryzen. A software like HWINFO64 can help you with this. Hey all, i had to join this forum just so i could take part in this discussion, and hopefully get some help from you guys as you certainly know more about this than me! so how am i to know which to change? Yeah, I was going to say.. thermally limited, 1.5v too much. Setting the Bar for High Performance. ... which should be enough to ensure that the system won’t crash and that temperatures won’t get too high. for example, there are 2 VDDGs in the bios, and neither of them are labelled CLDO. Thats all i changed, and that voltage seems wayyyy to high compared to what im seeing above. Again, im not shooting for the stars but id also like things to be correct. I couldn't complete a CB20 run at 4.3 all core at even 1.3875v. 1.003 not 1.004 yet. In my case and with my specific MOBO (Asus C6H - x370) the different Ryzen CPUs I had (3600x, 3700x and now 3900x) behaved in the same way: - High voltage at idle up to 1.5V - (Thus) 'high' idle temps: around 37-45ºC Pushed the voltage up incrementally to 1.35 to see if I could push 4.5GHz on all cores. One Chiplet I can OC to around 4.3x and the other 4.5x. the bios apply wrong voltages to numerous things, it was asus he mentioned also. Like way too high. Fixing the frequency caps the single core performance to a lower level than peak boost will reach on auto. Memory rank? I wrote down all the other #s i could see in the screenshots above, and went looking for them in bios, and i cant find them. One thing I like about my board is it has an AMD overclocking voltage setting that lets me dial it up and down by .1mv so I can do 1.34 or 1.35 and it kind helps me keep it on the lower end of what I think is acceptable for voltage. Reply TJ Hooker 19 June 2020 19:00 They struggle with giving people work units, and if you split your CPU into multiple smaller workers, you will experience very high temperatures, too high to run 24/7. But this only works if all other cores clock in the direction of 3.6 GHz. https://i. The most interesting part of these results, however, are the scores with a negative voltage offset: the Godlike board was stable with an offset as low as -0.1V using the 3900X… You try just setting the multi / voltage in the bios? The Ryzen 9 3900XT, 7 3800XT and 5 3600XT processors have 12, eight and six cores, respectively. Dropping the voltage down hurts overall peak performance. So I had a look in bios again. Check the CPU core voltage and the RPM of the pump. It's B Die spec'd at 4000 19-19-19-39 at 1.35v. I have trying really hard to get stable at 4.6ghz even on just on set of cores and its not happening even at crazy voltages. They must not be named exactly the same in bios vs RM. Then I have 1 core that shits the bed. If LLC is set too high, this spike in voltage as the CPU goes to idle could be reaching harmful levels. ). I jotted down some numbers from a thread on techpowerup and a video by jayztwocents (YouTube). thanks again for the input. All core, a 3900x will struggle to reach 4.2ghz. Looks like you win the silicon lottery this time. And goldchain said several times he got better results with PBO turned off, but I dont know what it is, or why it would be better on OR off. On asrock idle voltages are miles better than asus in windows. So I have no idea what its doing to determine that. By supplying the processor with less voltage we’re reducing the amount of heat generated in use. I shouldn't need the voltage I'm using for the RAM. A new BIOS is not going to fix voltage requirements and heat. What am I doing wrong? i will load up 1 of the above screenshots on my phone and look in the bios, but it seems most of what im seeing above is ram timings? It doesnt explain them at all. I am running the latest ABBA bios for the MEG Ace. Maybe with a better RAD or something I could do better. My board was over-volting my 3900x by quite a bit. It appears my chip hits some kind of power usage threshold and shits the bed. JavaScript is disabled. When I get home from work ill try and post some tips and just some general rules I followed when trying to push my chip. Played a few hours of CoD too. i dont understand why someone wont just say this setting is that setting, that setting is this setting. Then they run hot. unfortunately the manual is useless. Also, the whole post is about CPU but you said it's running hot … I watched this one the day I ordered the board. Which got me looking at voltages and the BIOS had the CPU at 1.45ish for god knows what reason. is this some sort of secret? Heres a screen shot. It maybe just one limiting core or CCD. 0 Kudos Gen. CPU, I advise to go the 'voltage offset' route. Check your voltage if you run high temps on idle!!! I am going to do some SMT testing and core preference testing tonight, ill let you know how that turns out too. It may not display this or other websites correctly. thanks for the reply pendragon. I might try some chilled loop OC'ing a later this year. I’d keep it in the 1.3x v range. Ryzen 9; 3900x heat, voltage and frequency issues. **********/d0J9RQNk/4-3-OC-2.png, Ryzen 5 3600X All Core 4300Mhz Ryzen Master-Voltage are normal as you would expect, Ryzen 5 3600X All Core 4300Mhz Motherboard BIOS-Voltage are off when set through BIOS, https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/cbls9g/the_final_word_on_idle_voltages_for_3rd_gen_ryzen/, https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/finally-fixed-my-ryzen-temps-voltage.430402/, (You must log in or sign up to reply here. The Ryzen 9 3900XT managed an all-core overclock frequency of 4.3GHz at just 1,325V, which is reasonable but not outside the realms of something I've achieved with my 3900X … jayztwocents mentioned this. Anything higher will not finish a CB20 run. 8028 on the Cina - not to bad, Ran AVX2 Beta in CPUz as a stress, seems good for about an hour. a 12 core 3900x pushes many more amps through the CPU than a 6 core 3600 would, assuming the same silicon quality. I entered what was availble from the G.Skill site, but the calculator wanted more values. i was able to run CBr20 and score 9533 at 4.1 all cores, 1.375v. Under heavy load the 3900X can run at 1.1v with vdrop which is a great CPU. Someone else mentioned that 16-15-15-32 is an odd timing. I manually dialed in 1.3125 volts. I think i looked in every menu and submenu. BCLK? Ryzen 3xxx CPUs tend to run at veery high voltage even on idle. The best I could do was 4.35 GHz on the good chiplet and 4.25 GHz on the bad chiplet. Thanks for the link. ASRock X370 Taichi. I tried making the same adjustments in bios that i did in RM, plus a few addtional tweaks to the only other settings i could find. Never out of the 60s. The more cores, though, the less worthwhile all-core OCs get, because the same all-core voltage for e.g. and then all the ns #s.... where do i get that info? it doesnt explain any of this... i looked. I am talking identical setup other than the CPU 3600 vs 3900x in the Asus setup. Looks like you're running stock power limits?? Hopefully, I'll be able to mess around with it tonight. Jul 12, 2019 Can confirm SMT totally not worth dickin with. You should really undervolt it. I changed RAM timings to 16-16-16-32 and still got horrible performance. is that realy a big ask? For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. Or do you exclusively OC in RM? I was running into major issues with PBO on. AMD Ryzen 3900X I use reaches a boost frequency of 4,500 MHz and usually operates around 4.20 - 4.25 GHz on all [or most] cores. https://hardforum.com/threads/manually-overclocking-ryzen-2-3900x.1986951/. Low 50s on idle. Unfortunately it's about as useful as the manual where it just says that settings exist. Memory type? I dont know why this would be... but its either that or im blind. I wrote a massive reply but decided to deleted it. What board are you running, ram and settings? So where can i find the values on the right i circled? I also tried the DRAM calculator tool, but that lead me nowhere as pretty much everything is was asking me to input, i didnt know. Raising my voltage just brings it to that envelope quicker, doesn't really seem to help with the OC much. Still seems crappy compared to the other chips mentioned in this thread. Maybe I'll make it 16-16-16-32. Looks like you got GoldChain shitlet and he got your good chiplet. You're supposed to watch temps under heavy load, not while idling. Thanks for the info and your time. AMD specifies 3200MHz as memory clock on the Ryzen 9 3900X. Quick Side Note : All of my overclocking is done in the BIOS, I really do not like the Ryzen overclocking tools. Im just curious, I also noticed my board was over volting the piss out of my CLDO VDDG, MEM VTT, VDDCR SOC and CLDO VDDP, I had to manually set them into spec and as soon as I did more headroom opened up. Wait, I don't get it. 1. You should get the beta bios and dig into the per CCX overclocking. As it stands yer minimum achievable core multi is 44.25. Ignore what RM says are the preferred cores. Oic it is in "red" now. Im sure that NOT changing any of the other settings is hurting me. So, I went back in and removed the -.1 offset from core voltage. I tried some overclocking with Ryzen Master. 50-100mhz of one core on a 3900x is (Edit: I had the math wrong forgot to account for 12 cores, lol) 0.125-0.25% of its processing power, just to throw that out there. Also, temps are completely fine at all of these settings. You are close to that 8K geeze! I think there is something to be explored with the way that the BIOS is telling the OS what the fastest core is, and the preferred power preferences which the setting name escapes me right now. Why don’t you read through this forum thread and see if it can answer your question? Personally, I have my chip set to -1.0V so the 3900x never has more than 1.4V fed to it (I did the same on the 3700x; l actually had this CPU with a 1.250V undervolt and it did just as good as stock. Chip still wouldnt get stable over 4.6 with 1.4+ volts. It's a lot easier using 1004 bios and doing it in bios. I found it to be completely wrong. PBO doesn't do anything on an all core overclock afaik but it does make it easier to raise the limiters. I think the memory controller on mine is weak. So I am very confused in terms of a "Safe" all core voltage for my 3900x. Keep an eye on the temps. It wont finish Cinabench R20 with Ryzen master stable. Mine is nowhere close to that. example, nowhere in those images does it say how or where the changes in BIOS were made, what voltage mode was used, etc. I guess pushing things too much is an asus thing. 1.35 range ideal. Kidding aside, try OCing individual cores in Ryzen Master to see which one is limiting you plus figure out which CCD you can OC more. The starred/preferred ccx were my weakest, smh. I would say too high. If your CPU is OC, it may also be good to reset it to factory settings. There, Broke 8k lol. But I have tried to use Ryzen master, and its idea of stable is a joke. You are using an out of date browser. 1.4 max. I haven't tried to go so 'low' on voltage on the 3900x yet. I bump up one more multi setting. For gamers and creators alike, that’s mission-critical performance built to help you win. No, the 3900X is not being overvolted. Sure 50-60 idle is kinda too much, but then it shouldn't stay at 4.2GHz while idling as well. Messing around yesterday, either my chip is a complete dog or I'm really screwing things up. Ryzen 3900X with a Corsair H100i rad and MX-4 in between. I guess I though Ryzen Master was taking care of this, but I guess not, because I got further. Increasing GFX voltage to 1.3V did nothing, and did not change the voltage readings at all. Oh are you running the beta agesa? The yellow curve shows the beat of the fastest nucleus in the comparison. (note: Apologies: I see that the same message was posted twice (revised in this post), but I'm unable to delete or even edit the original post for some reason) I first reported my issue in Aug 16, 2019. I played around with RM a bit. I dialed things back to 1.35, and clocked the chiplets separately. I then ran Prime 95 at those settings and the computer rebooted after about 5 minutes. What the power plans do change, however, is whether or not the CPU downclocks at idle or jumps straight to power-gated sleep (cc6 power state). I bet you have even more performance left on the table. However, with the sh!tlet at 4.3, and the chiplet from 4.35 up to 4.425, I get the same score 7655. Quick look to Google suggests 1.325 has been reported by AMD as a "Safe" but I cannot find this on any AMD articles or really any kind of review / overclock review. You must log in or register to reply here. Anyone using a 3900x with a corsair h110i gt? The two PBO test sets are used to provide a reasonable high-power comparison point, to gauge the "dangerousness" of voltage under-reporting at stock. Now, I can get the sh!tlet to 4.3 and the chiplet to 4.425 and pass Cinebench. I feel a little stupid now. Next scroll down to “CPU Voltage” and change the value from the default to 1.3V. The onboard firmware in the CPU controls that, not the power plan. That is one sick chip btw. ... Stock voltage was around 1.35 all core for me which caused the chip to slow down as temps reached 85c. Here is what I observed with a really good case airflow and Noctua D15 on my 3950X and 3900X alike. Not shown, i also disabled PBO. PCB revision? Discussion in 'Processors and motherboards AMD' started by CPC_RedDawn, Dec 30, 2019. I am not sure that I am doing it right... but its working ok so far. We're just discussing the 3900X for the sake of simplicity, here. The VCore the SOC protections are there to shut the system down if the voltage goes too high, like if … With 4650 MHz as the maximum (and always very short) value reached, the Ryzen 9 3900X is still just below the 4.7 GHz mark, but still surprisingly high. My averages are always 1.4v. At max load leading up to that point I never breached 75c temperatures. Based on the new voltage info which I cannot actively keep cool enough to use I have stabilized at 4.525 all core OC on 1.36v - Anything over 1.40v starts to strain my loop and I hit 80c on the CPU.
